U.S. GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE
Implement accounting software at the United States Government Accountability Office (US GAO).
Domain Technology Group customized and implemented a document order processing system for the United States Government Accountability Office (US GAO) in Washington, D.C. When someone accesses the site, www.gao.gov, they can request a government document online, or they can request a document using fax on demand. They also have the option to call a customer service representative who enters the order manually into ACCPAC Executive.
No matter which method of entry is used, the order is placed in Executive and a picking ticket is printed in a warehouse in the Washington, DC area. The requested document is picked, wrapped, and shipped. When more than one copy of a document is requested (the first one is free) the system tracks the cash receipt.
The underlying technology is Oracle 9i database and Powerbuilder 9, residing on a Windows NT 4.X server.
The next phase of this project is to implement a print on demand interface. When a document is requested, the system will send the file to print on demand on hardware. The document will be printed along with a shipping label, and automatically shrink wrapped. The government will gain considerable savings because it does not have to purchase and inventory thousands of documents.
